Ongoing & Annual

Programs & Daily Observances

Temporary Ordination

Temporary Ordination

Temporary ordination offers lay devotees the rare chance to live as a member of the Sangha for a set period — shaving the head, donning the robes, and following the monastic discipline under the close guidance of the resident monks.

  • Robes, alms bowl, and requisites provided
  • Guidance from the resident Sangha
  • Accommodation in a forest kuṭi
  • Daily meditation and Dhamma instruction
Daily Buddha Pūjāva & Dāna

Daily Buddha Pūjāva & Dāna

Each morning the aranya gathers for the Buddha pūjā and the offering of dāna to the Sangha. Devotees may sponsor or take part in the morning meal offering.

  • Morning Buddha pūjā in the shrine hall
  • Offering of dāna to the resident Sangha
  • Sharing and transference of merit
Daily Gilanpasa Pūjāva

Daily Gilanpasa Pūjāva

As dusk settles over the forest, the community gathers for the evening gilanpasa pūjā — the offering of allowable drinks and devotion to the Triple Gem.

  • Evening offering in the shrine hall
  • Chanting and devotional observance
  • Open to lay devotees and visitors
Meditation Programs

Katina Uthsawaya

Katina Uthsawaya

The Katina Uthsawaya is the grandest and most meritorious ceremony in the monastic calendar, held once a year within the month following the end of the three-month rains retreat (vassāna). The lay community comes together to offer the Katina robe and requisites to the resident Sangha, a dāna so rare that it may be offered to a monastery only once each year.

  • Offering of the Katina robe to the resident Sangha
  • Perahära procession of the robe and requisites
  • All-night pirith chanting and Dhamma sermons
  • Communal dāna and sharing of merit
